Music

One of the most challenging parts of planning a party is selecting a musical playlist. You need to create a playlist that’s filled with songs to get the party started, which should include your and your friend’s favourite music. A big mistake that’s made by a lot of people planning parties is to create a playlist that’s filled with their favourite music, but not the favourite music of their guests. In order to ensure that your playlist is received well, including genres and songs that they enjoy, as well as current music.

Date

You also need to plan your party for a date that’s manageable for all of your friends. In terms of time, most parties take place in the late afternoon and evening. When planning your party’s date, make sure that you ask your friends what time is good for them. It might be worth creating a group chat on a messaging app so that they can all communicate with each other and find a time that’s agreeable for all. Once you have your date and time confirmed, you can begin planning other aspects of your party.

Venue

If you are planning a small party and only friends are going to be in attendance, then it’s probably a good idea to just hold it at your house. The reason for this is that it’s completely free holding a party at home, you won’t need to book a venue. If you live with your parents, then you should ask them for their permission first. If you live with other family members, then ask them if they have any objections to you throwing a party. More often than not, they won’t do. If they are going to be at home while your party’s going on, then be respectful of them.

Theme

All good parties have a theme. If your party is going to include drinking, music, and dancing, then a theme will make it a lot more enjoyable for all in attendance. There are lots of different types of themes that you can use for your party, from ‘70s disco night to ‘90s grunge night. The theme of your party should reflect all of the interests of your guests. If your friends are interested in a specific era or period in history, then holding a party that’s themed according to this will likely impress them and ensure that everybody has a great time.

Guest List

If you are having a small party with friends, then the guest list will likely be very straightforward to create. If you are going to throw a larger party, then you need to carefully work out your guest list so that you can filter out undesirables. Many of your party’s guests may want to bring plus-ones, which is something that you need to consider. If you don’t want any additional guests, then make this clear in your invitation. If anybody does want to bring anybody else, make sure that you tell them to ask you first.

Budget

If you are throwing a small party, then the budget isn’t going to be a big concern. If you are throwing a larger party for a large group of people then it is something that you need to give a lot of thought to. The budget that you set aside for your party can have a lot of influence on how fun it is. For example, if your budget’s very small, then you might not be able to provide all of your guests with alcohol. In order to ensure that you have the right amount of alcohol and food for your guests, work out a budget that’s in line with the number of people that are going to be attending.

Caterer

If you are going to be throwing a large party, then you might need to hire a caterer. A caterer is a private individual or company who provides food for special events. You don’t have to hire a caterer however, you could prepare food yourself, or ask a loved one to. The only way that this will work is if you only have a few people coming. If you have a lot of people coming then you will either need to hire a professional caterer, or you can order food in (or just not provide food at all). You don’t necessarily need to provide food for your party if it’s mainly going to be centred around drinking alcohol and dancing.

Bar

You do need to provide your guests with alcohol if you want your party to be enjoyed by those that are in attendance. No party’s fun without alcohol. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on alcohol, however. You can go down to your local Cost Co and pick up lots of alcohol for next to nothing. Alternatively, you could ask your guests to bring their own bottles. If you do provide alcohol, then make sure that you offer it to your guests free of charge.

Neighbours

If you are throwing a party at home, then you might want to tell your neighbours about it. This isn’t so that they can attend, but so that they can prepare. Parties can get very loud. Notifying your neighbours in advance will ensure that they don’t get taken by surprise by your party and have to come over and ask what’s going on. Be respectful and keep the noise down, too.

If you are planning a party for your friends, then you need to plan meticulously. If you don’t take the time to organise and plan your party, then it won’t go down as a success. Take this guide’s advice into consideration, and your party’s guaranteed to be a hit.
