Why is Water So Important to the Human Body?

Water is essential to human life; it makes up 60% of the human body and is necessary for all of its functions. Without water, we would die within days. But what specifically does water do for the body? If you’ve always wondered about the answer to this question, you’re in the right place.

What is Water?

Firstly, what exactly is this magical fluid that keeps us alive? Well, H20 is a molecule made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. What does that mean? Essentially, water is made up of two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. As a liquid, water is odorless, colorless, and tasteless. When consumed, water is absorbed by the body and circulated through the bloodstream.

Water and the Body

Now that we know a little more about the liquid itself, let’s move on to how it affects the human body. To put it simply, water is essential for the proper functioning of every single cell in our bodies. It helps to regulate our body temperature, lubricate our joints, and protect our organs and tissues. In fact, over 60% of the human body is made up of water.

Water is also necessary for proper digestion and elimination; it helps to break down the food we eat and carry waste out of the body. Not to mention, water is a critical component of blood – it makes up about 90% of our blood plasma. Blood is responsible for transporting oxygen and nutrients to our cells, so without enough water, our bodies would not be able to function properly.

Water is a key component in many biochemical reactions that occur in the body, such as metabolism. It is also necessary for the transportation of nutrients and waste products throughout the body. In addition, water helps to regulate body temperature and is a lubricant for our joints. Simply put, we need water to survive.

Perhaps the best way to describe the importance of water is to think about what would happen without water – why do we die within days without water? As we’ve seen, water is essential for the proper functioning of our cells. Every cell in our body needs water to function properly. Water allows cells to maintain their shape, get rid of waste products, and carry out essential chemical reactions.

Without water, we would also be at risk for dehydration, which can lead to a whole host of health problems. Dehydration can cause headaches, dizziness, and fatigue. In severe cases, the lack of water causes organs to shut down. Soon enough, dehydration will cause death.

Tips to Consume More Water

Since water is so important for the human body, we must consume enough every day. The recommended amount of water intake for adults is eight glasses or about two liters. How do you increase your intake?

Firstly, look at solutions like Gordon Water Systems for filtration, softening, and other water quality solutions to make sure you’re drinking the cleanest and best-tasting water possible. If you have a higher quality of water in your home and/or business, you’re more likely to consume it.

Secondly, keep a reusable water bottle with you at all times; this will make it easier for you to drink water throughout the day, whether you’re at home, work, or on the go. Typically, people tend to drink more water when it’s right in front of them.

Last but not least, try adding fruits or vegetables to your water for a healthy and refreshing twist. Why? Because water by itself can become boring after a while, and adding natural flavors is a fantastic way to stay hydrated without feeling like you’re forcing yourself to drink plain water.

So, there you have it – three easy tips to help you up your water intake and improve your overall health!
